Respiratory Therapy Students Take Top Honors in State Competition

Health Care Schools

(PRWEB) September 3, 2005 -- Respiratory Therapy students, faculty and staff at Pima Medical Institute, 3350 E. Grant Road, Suite 200 in Tucson, were puffed up with pride after learning their RT students placed first in a recent contest conducted at the 39th Annual State Respiratory Care Conference.

The competition tested the knowledge of Respiratory Care students across the state in topics that ranged from basic respiratory physics to advanced mechanical ventilation. The Tucson team will go to the National Respiratory Care Conference in San Antonio, Texas Dec. 3 - 6 to represent the state of Arizona.

"For more than 30 years our goal at Pima Medical Institute has been to provide outstanding career training to students who can then meet the high expectation of 21st century employers," said Stan Bodzioney, campus director for the career college. "They are living proof of our commitment to excellence, and we are very proud of them."

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Respiratory Therapy is one of the fastest growing occupations in the U.S. PMI's 88-hour program consists of classes in medical ethics, mathematics, chemistry, physics, human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, advanced respiratory care techniques (including neonatal and adult special care procedures), general and advanced pharmacology, cardiopulmonary disease, patient assessment and the therapeutics that are required to function at the patient's bedside in the hospital setting. Graduates earn an Associate of Occupational Science degree.

PMI is one of the premier medical career colleges in the western United States. The privately owned, accredited school provides students with a well-rounded education embracing theoretical classroom studies, as well as on-site training in allied health facilities within the community. This gives the student the opportunity to function in a working environment.

The campus offers programs for Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Health Unit Coordinator, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiography, Respiratory Therapy and Veterinary Assistant.
