Brewster Technical Center

Brewster Technical Center was constructed as an Opportunity School in 1923 to help young people secure an education, throughout the years has grown according to students work and on-the-job training needs.

In 1989 was inaugurated and has become a state-of-the-art technical training center for the entire Tampa Bay area Community which offers a variety range of study programs.

Once of the academies in Brewster is the Health Science Education, which includes study programs in Health Unit Coordinator, Patient Care Technician, Pharmacy Technician and Nursing Assistant.

Health Unit Coordinator program takes five months, including the clinical practicum. Graduates can work in local hospitals, insurance companies, clinics and doctor?s offices and also can be eligible to take the National Certification Examination in areas such as Medical Terminology, monitor cardiac rhythms and more.

Throughout the Patient Care Technician program, students learn how to provide direct care to patients and get experience in care of the nursing home patient, allied health assisting, electrocardiography and phlebotomy.

Graduates can take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program to become certified as a nursing assistant in the State of Florida.

The Pharmacy Technician program has duration of 10 months including a practicum in a retail or hospital pharmacy. Graduates can work in hospitals, home health, retail and mail order settings and also can take the certification examination sponsored by the Florida Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists.

Finally, the Nursing Assistant program prepares students to provide physical care and safety for patients in a nursing home setting.
