Cañada College opened their doors in 1968 as one of the three schools of the San Mateo County Community College District, located on Highway 280. The fact that they are one of the smallest community colleges in the Bay Area allows them to treat students in a personalized way. As a result this College has been placed in the cutting edge at transporting students to four-year colleges and universities.
Middle or concomitant college, high school students or individuals who are 18 years old or over, can attend Cañada even if they do not have a high school diploma. However, the requirements for 16 or 17 year-old students and non-high school graduates change a bit. They must have passed the California High School Proficiency Examination, concluded the GED Examination Series with a score of 50 or more having a minimum average of 55 for the rest of the exams.
If a student is willing to be registered in the department of health, the individual must get enrolled in the Science Division, which covers different departments: Biological Science, Chemistry, Physics and Radiology Technology.
They also provide a wide range of particular services for students such as Financial Aid, Counseling Center, Special Services for Disabled Students, Learning Center, particular Activities for Students, Library and Bookstore, Health Center and Parking.
Financial Assistance is administered by the Financial Aid Office which provides a program that includes grants, loans and work-study plans for qualified students. Although scholarships are available, Cañada College does not certify student loans. Nonetheless, they give international students who attend other institution full-time the opportunity to attend part-time at CC.
