The purpose of the foundation of the Central Ohio Technical College, which was held in 1971, was to fulfill the need of an institution for skilled technicians. COTC is made up by three different campuses: Newark, which is the main one, Coshocton and Mount Vernon. In 2004, the Board of Regents recognized that COTC was the fastest growing college in Ohio because of their consistent growth since their beginnings. Today, there are over 2,700 students taking classes in it although the college opened its doors with a 114-student enrollment.
The list of divisions and their corresponding programs of study is long in COTC. Likewise, the divisions related to Health Science are many. The comprehensive Nursing and Allied Health Technology Programs encloses the following programs: Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology, which at the same time is sub-categorized in Cardiovascular and General; Emergency Medical Services Program; Nursing Technology offered in many classifications; Radiographic Technology; Surgical Technology and Medical Office Administration. For most of the courses, different degrees are available, including certificates.
The institution is well-recognized by many important organizations. As examples, the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission has accredited the Nursing Technology program, and the Radiologic Technology program has been approved by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiographic Technology. Furthermore, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Joint Review Committee in Education of Diagnostic Medical Sonography certify the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology. In general, the College has received credit from the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
