The Onslow County Industrial Education Center was approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education in 1965. Two years later, the name of this center changed to Onslow Technical Institute. In 1970, Onslow Technical Institute was granted community college and, in that moment, became Coastal Carolina Community College. Relocation was held due to a higher demand of space and resources, and it was finished in 1978. This community college has received accreditation from many recognized associations and organizations such as The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Furthermore, their programs of study have also been accredited by the American Dental Association, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the N.C. Board of Nursing and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, for instance.
At CCCC, associate degrees, diplomas and certificates are offered. The Associate Degrees are categorized into 4 different classifications. One of them is the Associate in Applied Science which encloses many health related programs of study such as dental hygiene, emergency medical science, medical laboratory technology, medical office administrations and surgical technology. Likewise, diplomas are offered for the programs of dental assisting, practical nursing and surgical technology. Finally, certificate programs include nursing assistance and office systems technology/medical.
