The program is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment as a competent Surgical Technologist: Level I, in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains, via classroom and clinical hands-on training, as well as professional development. Graduates will demonstrate skills in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Surgical Techniques, Surgical Procedures, disinfecting and decontamination, sterilization, gowning and gloving, instrument categories and usage, specialty equipment usage, homeostasis, instrument counts, skin preparation and patient positioning, surgery preparation, and assisting surgeons. Students will utilize these work place skills in large clinics that perform in-house surgery, out-patient surgery centers, and hospital operating theaters.
The Surgical Technology Program provides education for entry-level competency into the profession of surgical technology. At the time of completion, a student should have approximately 600 hours in an operating room setting with a minimum of 125 cases of first scrub experience. The surgical technology student will demonstrate the following:
Knowledge and practice of basic patient-care concepts
Application of the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner that provides for optimal patient care in the operating room
Basic surgical case preparation skills
Ability to perform the role of first scrub on all basic surgical procedures
Responsible behavior as a health care professional

Each Academy campus is a modern, technical, healthcare, career institute small enough to be concerned with individual student progress, yet large enough to provide needed resources. The students work with equipment and instruments relative to their field of study.
Classrooms are unique per program and are conducted under the supervision of approved faculty. Class enrollment is limited to ensure that students receive personal attention in classes. A portion of most programs is spent as an intern in an off-campus environment practicing skills in a supervised workplace. To enter The Academy of Health Care Professions, a prospective student must meet these general requirements:
Possess and submit a high school diploma, or a high school transcript, or an official GED
Must be at least 17 years of age
Complete a Confidential Student Information Sheet
Make payment of the $50 registration fee
