Westwood College Medical Assisting Degree Program
In recent years Medical Assisting has become increasingly important to the health care field. Not only have physicians become more dependent on Medical Assistants, but now hospital clinics, and nursing homes are also requesting their services. Additionally, medical supply companies, home-health agencies, and insurance and pharmaceutical companies are also providing many career opportunities.
The Medical Assisting program provides students with the skills necessary to be responsible for a range of front office and back office functions. Coursework will include many opportunities for hands-on training, including 160 hours spent on an externship where you will work in a medical facility doing administrative and patient contact tasks required of the job. Student responsibilities will range from front office work such as appointment setting, telephone triage, and insurance billing and coding to back office tasks such as assisting in vital signs, ECGs, and phlebotomy.
The Medical Assisting program prepares students for a fast-paced, diverse, and rewarding entry-level career in physicians' offices, urgent care centers, or clinics. The program provides a complete range of high-level front and back-office skills, making you a valuable member of the team.
