Medical Assistant

Hamilton College is an institution of higher education offering quality programs that integrate general education, professional skills, and career-focused education to empower students to develop and achieve their personal and career potentials.

Hamilton College, Medical Assistant

The objective of the Medical Assistant program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for an entry-level position as a medical assistant. Students in the program are required to submit evidence of good health by having a physical exam, including a TB test, up-to-date immunizations, and screening for Hepatitis, as well as following a dress code.

Although certain programs at Hamilton College are designed to prepare students to take various certification or licensing exams, the College cannot guarantee the student will pass those exams. In some cases, field experience may be necessary to be eligible to take or to successfully pass the exams.

Duties for the graduates of this program will include performing laboratory, clinical, and medical office procedures, and include routine laboratory tests such as blood work, venipuncture, urinalysis, and electrocardiograms. They assist the doctor in patient preparation, examination, and other patient relations. Competence in the field also requires a medical assistant to display professionalism, communicate professionally, and provide instruction to patients. The Medical Assistant program consists of a minimum of 96 credit hours completed over a period of 21 months. This program is represented to lead to multiple job opportunities and is not meant to lead to any particular outcome, including that specified in the program title. Although the College will assist the student with job placement, finding a job is the ultimate responsibility of the student. The College does not guarantee that any student will be placed in any particular job, or at all.
