American River College

American River College (ARC) is a state-funded two year community college founded in 1955 in Sacramento. Today it is a premier learning institution.

It is part of Los Rios Colleges; these include American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College and Sacramento City College.

ARC has a large variety of study programs in Behavioral and Social Sciences, Business, Computer Science and Information Technology, English, Fine and Applied Arts, Health and Education, Humanities, Mathematics, Physical Education and Athletics, Science and Engineering and Technical Education.

The Health and Education faculty offers study programs in Nursing, Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician and Respiratory Care.

Nursing Program provides knowledge in biology, behavior and physical science necessary to be a nurse.

On the other hand, the Emergency Medical Technician-Basis gives the student an outline of the EMS system, introduces assessment skills, and also supplies the pathophysiology of common neurological, respiratory or cardiac related emergencies.

The Paramedic Program prepares students to respond to emergencies, Paramedics can work for fire departments, rescue squads, private providers, industrial companies, clinics and hospitals.

Finally, the Respiratory Care practitioners has the mission to evaluate, treat and care for patients with breathing disorders such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema and also heart attack, accident victims, premature infants and people with cystic fibrosis, lung cancer or AIDS.

ARC Respiratory Care program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Program. Once completed the Associate in Science degree program graduates can apply for the license to become a respiratory care practitioner.

American River College students can enjoy a variety of services, for example, financial aid, bookstore, health center, transfer center, counseling, international student services, food, children?s care and more.
