Catawba Valley Community College: More Than a College!

Catawba Valley Community College is located between Hickory and Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina.

 In 1960 the construction of Catawba Valley Community College finally ended. That same year the first classes were held with a general enrollment of 77 students. At that time the College was also called Catawba County Industrial Education Center. In 1964 the first Associate Degree in Applied Science was awarded. In 1979 they changed their name to Catawba Valley Technical College; however in 1987 the name Catawba Valley Community College was officially approved by the State Board of Community Colleges. Until these days they keep being coeducational and publicly sustained. 

A wide variety of Academic Programs can be found in Catawba Valley.  They offer College Transfer Programs, an opportunity to take the first two years of a four-year degree, Associate Degree Technical Programs which prepare students for the best jobs of the corresponding area, Certificate and Diploma Programs which are faster to complete and are a preparation for the specific occupation, Short Term (cost-effective) Training and Continuing Education which is made up by specialized courses that will teach new and detailed skills. 

Individuals have the possibility to choose one of 5 different study programs that belong to their Health Sciences division. These options are: Associate Degree Nursing, Radiography, Emergency Medical Service, Respiratory Therapy and Dental Hygiene. 

Furthermore there are many kinds of health jobs in the Catawba Valley area. For that matter Catawba has developed various plans regarding community resources that may be extremely useful for their students. 

These students are going to be able to stay in contact with clinical facilities, hospitals and other locations that in general will make them develop essential abilities and talents because of staying in contact with such a significant first-hand experience.

They are supervised by proficient professionals in the subject; this not only makes them learn a lot but also shows them particular facts that would be unnoticeable otherwise.
