Harry S. Truman College: Your Option!

In 1956, Harry S. Truman College was opened in Amundsen High School as an evening college due to the fact that the community was interested in creating a public two-year college. Around 5 years later, this adventure was taken to a Chicago elementary school; the new name was: Mayfair College. In this institution, evening and day classes were given to an approximate of 4,000 individuals. Due to the great growth that they experienced, it was necessary to build a new campus in the heart of Chicago. Once placed there the school was named Harry S. Truman in honor to the 33rd president of the United States. Today, the institution is located in 1145 West Wilson Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.

This beautiful College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and approved by the Illinois Community College Board, the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Board of Higher Education. The Truman Nursing Program is well-known too. It is accredited by the State of Illinois, the Department of Professional Regulation and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

In 1964 the institution was a pioneer in offering associate degree nursing programs. This made them become a model for Illinois Community Colleges. Around 2,500 Nursing students have graduated since the inception of the program. The degree Truman offers for Nursing is the R.N. (Registered Nursing); completing this program takes two years. Students enrolled in Nursing are able to work under the direction and supervision of masters-prepared members of the faculty. In addition, the program prepares them in order to get a successful qualification in the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination). So, if your interests are focused on Nursing, Truman College is not an option for you to consider but an option for you to opt for.
